I don't usually post on any site, but I feel it necessary to do so today.
1972 alumnist Gerard (Gerry) Mabli passed away the other day, he was 55.
He leaves behind his wife a son his brother mother and father and many friends.
I may be younger then Gerry but I will never forget his sense of humor or his kindness when I was sick in the summer or 1971.
God bless and comfort his family and all who knew him during this sorrowful time.
Thank you Gerry(fatalow) keep smiling....

Hi and Happy St. Patty's Day to one and all! A whole bunch of us are getting together at Burkes tonight on Old Hook Road, so if anyone is in the area, please stop by.
Also, my next charity event is set. On Monday afternoon, July 18th, I will be taking on 40 players at once in another simultaneous chess exhibition to officially kickoff the U.S. Senior Open. This event will take place at Houston's Hobby Airport Hilton Hotel in Houston, Texas, and all monies raised will go towards ALS, St. Louis Regional Chapter in honor of my friend. This event would have been his first year of eligibility and given that he is approaching 2 years into his diagnosis of Lou Gehrig's Disease, he will not be able to compete. The cost to challenge me would be $20 a board, and I am trying to check to see about Grandmaster, Sergey Kudrin's availability to serve as a Lifeline. We did an event in Sparta last year at this time, and had some fun as well as raise money for some good causes.
Given the events that have been going on in Japan, I am unable to change my commitment to the ALS, St. Louis Regional Chapter since this event was already committed to. I know that some Westwood Alumni live in the Houston area, and if they are interested in this event, or anybody else that is interested, you can e-mail me at butlersug1962@gmail.com. There does exist a possibility that my simultaneous services may be wanted in St. Louis itself for July 16th, and that event is still being considered at this time. Given the fact that I am not welcomed there, it remains to be seen as a way of making amends, as a way to try to bury the hatchet.

Westwood High is getting a turf field stadium, we break ground on the complex soon and it will be ready for the 2011-12 School season. Lots of changes have happened over the years. It is great to see our school continuing to shine and grow.

I was shocked and saddened to read about Kurt's passing. My family and I send our sincere condolences to Wendy and their families. I never met Kurt, but I have come back to this site many, many times over the years to keep up with everyone, and Kurt did an amazing job creating and running this site. Whatever the family chooses to do here, I'm sure we will all support you. Take care and our sypathies on your terrible loss.

We had an amazing time on Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas, a five day cruise in the Caribbean - stopping at Labadee, Haiti, and Montego Bay, Jamaica.
While we originally hopped on board the bandwagon with folks who booked from the Class of 1960, we only met one person from that class during our trip. It was good to meet her, and my husband and I had booked with four other friends from our hometown, so we had old friends, current friends, and made new friends, easy to do in such relaxed and beautiful surroundings and setting.
This cruise was so smooth and beautiful...perfect weather (a hurricane had touched the area with wind and rain weeks before), luxurious suite (inexpensive upgrade from balcony cabin), and 85 degree days, throughout. Everything was lovely, the staff from steward to wait staff and excursion guides, were polite, professional and polished. The shows on board the Navigator were top-notch, as was the dining!
If another class wants to try this, I can only say that the trip was a hit with us, and Travel Planners, who did this for WHS Class of '60, did an awesome job of getting us comfortably and well taken care of - and we 'found' a little $50 bonus from them on our sea pass as a credit !

It is with great sadness that my longtime childhood friend Judy Sickinger-Gimino passed away friday November 18, 2010 .She was a good friend and she will be missed by her family, husband Virgil ,children, Cristopher,Stephanie and Nicholas , Sister Mary and brother Kenny.
